The champions of the 2022 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards were announced in Melbourne in October 2022 Backwoods Distilling Co in Yackandandah taking home the top Trophy for Best Single Malt Whisky, along with four Silver awards and two Bronze awards for their rye whisky and range of gins.
This is only the second time the family-owned business has entered the prestigious competition, with the distillery established in 2017 and its first products hitting the market in 2020.
In only a short time, the hard-working Backwoods team have already earned a reputation for producing quality Australian spirits.
âWe are thrilled to have been awarded the top trophy for our single malt, as it really confirms all our hard work is paying off and our products are of the highest standard," Leigh Attwood, business owner and head distiller said.
"These awards also mean so much to us as we have such high regard for the panel of judges and all the distilleries who entered."
Entries were assessed by 48 of Australiaâs leading industry experts over three days with points awarded for appearance, nose, palate, balance and finish.
